The Gender & Women's Studies program at Dalhousie University is an interdisciplinary undergraduate degree that critically examines the roles of gender, women, and sexuality in society. The curriculum explores intersections of gender with race, class, sexuality, age, and health—focusing on how these factors shape complex social relationships and often sustain inequality and discrimination. The program draws courses from history, social sciences, literature, language, and the arts, and provides students with theoretical, analytical, and practical tools to challenge entrenched social attitudes. Typical courses include Philosophy of Sex and Love, Women and the Economy, African Caribbean Women Writers, and Sociology and Anthropology of the Body. Students can pursue honours or a major; both tracks are designed to prepare graduates for diverse careers such as social work, policy analysis, consulting, and further study in graduate or professional schools.
