Dalhousie University's Bachelor of Arts (Major/Honours) in Spanish & Latin American Studies provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the language, cultures, and histories of the Spanish-speaking world. The program includes language courses at all proficiency levels—from beginner to advanced—and covers translation, Spanish and Latin American civilization, history, politics, literature, and film. Many non-language courses are taught in English and are open as electives to students in other programs. The curriculum is designed to foster deep engagement with over 400 million people across 22 countries, and students have opportunities to participate in study abroad experiences. The program enhances career prospects in international business, government, NGOs, and education, and also offers preparation for the official Spanish language DELE exam. No prior knowledge of Spanish is required; placement tests assign initial course levels for those with experience.
