Dalhousie University's Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) program, delivered by the Faculty of Health, prepares students to become Registered Nurses (RNs) with the skills, professionalism, and compassion required for diverse health care environments. The program offers a comprehensive blend of theoretical study and diverse clinical placements, with both Halifax and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia as study locations. Students choose between an 8-semester (3-year) route if entering from high school (Semester 1 entry), or a 6-semester (2-year) accelerated route for those with prior university credits (Semester 3 entry). After graduation, students are eligible to practice as graduate nurses and to apply for the NCLEX-RN licensure examination. Optional certificates are available in specialties such as Acute/Critical Care Nursing, Mental Health and Addictions Nursing, Oncology Nursing, Perinatal and Paediatric Nursing, and Public Health Nursing, which offer advanced knowledge beyond the generalist level and respond to specific sector needs. The BScN at Dalhousie is highly competitive, maintaining rigorous academic and professional standards that prepare graduates for local, national, and international nursing roles.
