The Master of Social Work in Indigenous Trauma and Resiliency (MSW-ITR) at the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto, is a two-year, full-time cohort-based master's program designed to train advanced social work professionals to work with Indigenous individuals, families, and communities affected by historical and generational trauma. As the first program of its kind in North America, it blends Western social work theory with Indigenous knowledge and healing practices. The curriculum emphasizes personal, cultural, professional, and academic development through face-to-face intensive courses, online learning, and extensive practicum placements with Elders, cultural mentors, and community organizations. The program focuses on trauma intervention, resilience-building, and culturally grounded approaches, preparing graduates for leadership and front-line roles supporting Indigenous wellness and healing. The program is open to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students committed to working with Indigenous populations.
