The Biomedical Systems Engineering major is offered within the Engineering Science undergraduate program at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering. In the first two years, students study a common foundational curriculum of science and engineering. At the end of second year, students may specialize in Biomedical Systems Engineering (also called the Biomedical Engineering major), which covers embryonic development, tissue engineering, mathematical modeling in biology, biomedical imaging, omics, physiological control systems, biomechanics and rehabilitation engineering, and computational biology. Students can choose electives from four areas: systems and synthetic biology, regenerative medicine and biomaterials, neuro sensory and rehab engineering, and sensors, nano/microsystems and instrumentation. The program prepares graduates for biomedical engineering innovation in research, healthcare, and industry.
