University of Toronto's Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering delivers a rigorous, applied education in the fundamentals and advanced principles of mechanical engineering. The curriculum integrates foundational coursework in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and computer programming, moving into core mechanical engineering topics such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, control theory, and material science. Students select specialized elective courses from two out of five streams: Manufacturing, Mechatronics, Solid Mechanics & Design, Energy & Environment, or Bioengineering, allowing program customization to individual interests. Experiential learning is a cornerstone: students complete labs, design projects, a capstone fourth-year project partnered with industry, and have opportunities for undergraduate research or an independent thesis. The program features an optional Professional Experience Year (PEY) paid co-op, requiring students to work full-time in industry for 12–16 months. All graduates must complete at least 600 hours of practical work.
