The Honours Bachelor of Arts - Journalism Specialist (Joint Program) at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC), in collaboration with Centennial College, combines academic and practical training for aspiring journalists. Students earn an Honours BA from U of T and also qualify for the Ontario Graduate Certificate in Contemporary Journalism from Centennial College. The curriculum emphasizes critical thinking, research, writing, media ethics, and multi-platform journalism using modern digital technologies. Coursework is split between UTSC (first two years and final semester) and Centennial College (three consecutive semesters beginning Fall of year 3) and includes a mandatory 7-week field placement. Graduates build a portfolio through work on real community newspapers, online publications, and internet radio, preparing them for careers in journalism, media, communications, and related fields. From Summer 2026, Centennial College courses are relocated to the Progress Campus.
