The MFA in Visual Arts at University of Regina’s Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance is a research-oriented studio program focusing on the development, production, and critical contextualization of contemporary studio art. Students engage extensively with faculty through individualized studio mentorship and weekly seminars in art theory and criticism. The intentionally small cohort (maximum five students per year) fosters intensive student-faculty interaction. The curriculum includes advanced studio courses and seminars, culminating in a professional exhibition, a comprehensive support paper (25-50 pages), and an oral defense. The program is supported by cross-disciplinary faculty and provides dedicated studio space and access to facilities such as the Fifth Parallel Gallery and specialized workshops. Graduates acquire advanced skills in contemporary art practice, research, and critical writing.
