The Master of Future Cities (MFC) at the University of Waterloo, Faculty of Environment, is a flexible, predominantly online program designed for early- and mid-career professionals. The program focuses on future and systems thinking as well as foresight methods, equipping students to tackle current and emerging urban challenges. The program emphasizes hands-on, practical experience through a team-based capstone project, close interaction with external partners, and includes key curriculum elements such as guest speakers, field trips, and networking opportunities. Students complete nine courses, including core courses, electives, a recommended international field school, and a two-day on-campus residency in August. The program aims to cultivate multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary thinking to generate innovative solutions for complex, uncertain urban futures.
