The Social Development Studies (SDS) program at Renison University College, University of Waterloo, equips students to promote social impact by analyzing how human interactions are shaped by individual, collective, and structural forces—including mental health, relationships, economics, education, politics, and movements for social justice and change. Students gain foundational knowledge across key social science disciplines and develop skills for careers in social work, counselling, public service, education, law, and community organizations. The program offers small classes, experiential learning, co-op and apprenticeship opportunities, and can be customized through specializations in selected areas. Students may start in the Fall, Winter, or Spring, and pursue either a 3-year General, or 4-year Honours BA degree. Completion of SDS allows direct application to the college’s accredited Bachelor of Social Work.
