The MA in Sexualities, Genders and Bodies (Collaborative Specialization) at the University of Guelph is an interdisciplinary graduate field focused on advanced concepts in human identity, embodiment, and self-expression. This specialization draws on theories from feminism, decolonialism, postcolonialism, LGBTQ+, queer-of-colour, indigeneity, masculinities, and disability studies, encouraging students to approach these topics from multidisciplinary perspectives and apply them within research in their primary department. This program does not stand alone and must be completed concurrently with another participating MA program (such as Art History and Visual Culture, European Studies, French, History, Latin American and Caribbean Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, or Psychology). Students are required to complete two foundational SGB seminars, and depending on their home program, either ensure that a major research project or thesis places substantial emphasis on SGB content or, in course-based programs, that at least 30% of their coursework is SGB-relevant. Graduates will gain expertise applicable to advocacy, research, policy, and work in equitable and inclusive practices.
