The Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Toxicology at the University of Guelph is an interdisciplinary undergraduate program that focuses on the effects and mechanisms of toxic substances in biological systems, particularly mammals. It integrates core studies in biology, chemistry, human health, nutritional sciences, molecular and cellular biology, and pathobiology. Students gain hands-on laboratory experience and study dose-response relationships, toxicological mechanisms, and methods for evaluating health hazards associated with exposure to various toxicants (pharmaceuticals, industrial chemicals, pesticides, and natural toxins). The program also covers environmental toxicology, toxicological testing for drug and chemical safety, and statistical analysis of toxicological data. The co-op option spans five years and includes four work terms to provide practical, real-world experience. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in toxicology research, pharmaceuticals, environmental sectors, and regulatory agencies, or further health professional studies.
